GATEWAY'S MISSION
Gateway to the Arts transforms the lives and education of children through active participation in the arts and inspires students and educators to become lifelong learners and participants in the arts by making the arts integral to education.
GATEWAY'S VISION
The arts will be an integral part of every western Pennsylvania child's life and education. Through arts teaching and learning we will create citizens who are lifelong learners and active participants in the arts.
GATEWAY SERVES
- Students - In FY2008 we reached 92,400 pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students in 54 school districts, 52 private schools and alternative sites, and 5 parochial schools in 10 counties of western Pennsylvania through performance programs, artists-in-residence and attendance at the Pittsburgh Glass Center.
- Teachers - In FY2008, 8,100 early childhood through 12th grade educators participated in our activities and professional development workshops that taught skills in arts integration and brought the educators to cultural arts venues including the Heinz Regional History Center, the Phipps Conservatory, the Pittsburgh Glass Center and the Society for Contemporary Crafts.
- Artists - Over 119 local artists participated in our programming, ensuring them earned income, performances and teaching opportunities before very diverse audiences, and expanded marketing opportunities for their professional activities.
CURRENT GOALS
- Provide 20 professional development sessions for early childhood through 12th grade teachers, 180 arts learning residencies, and 400 performance programs in western Pennsylvania
