It's ShowTime!Arts experiences are central to the development of cognitive, motor, language and social-emotional skills in young children. Gateway to the Arts ShowTime! performance programs are designed specifically for pre-kindergarten children and provide critical early exposures to music, visual art and dance through interactive, entertaining and developmentally appropriate 30-minute sessions with our professional performing artists. Every child receives a Take-Home booklet after the performance with activities and prompts for parental engagement at home. Performances can accommodate 40 - 100 children depending on the program. Percussionist Jeff Berman creates an interactive program using fascinating and unusual instruments from different corners of the world. Children explore the relationships of the rhythm and sound in our "language of words" to those in the "language of music"- and discover that you can hear it all if you listen closely!
Who will help the Little Red Hen? Guitarist Dan Burgun and singer/actress Rebecca Covert bring this popular folktale to life while exploring different styles of American music (bluegrass, folk, jazz and blues) in this early childhood program. Children will sing-a-long to silly songs and use their bodies to create animal characters, sound effects and rhythms. Unlike the lazy animals in this tale, the children will help the Little Red Hen work in the garden, grind the flour and bake a cake while learning the importance of helping others.
Puppeteer/storyteller Joann Kielar's program presents three classic tales from different corners of the world. Young children experience basic components of story structure- setting, character, and plot- while creating sound effects and predicting outcomes and possibilities. Come along! Let's open the door to a world of stories.
With animals for inspiration, dancer Mary Miller and percussionist Dan Meunier use the alphabet to get children moving. Mary Miller is the founder and artistic director of Mary Miller Dance Company. Dan Meunier is a professional percussionist.
