Performance ProgramsA quality arts experience in a learning environment has the power to transform students. It can open their worlds to a host of inspiring new ideas, from understanding history & culture to discovering ways of expression via movement, music or word. Many of these programs explore regional history through the arts, while others feature art forms from cultures across the globe. Some programs provide an introduction to traditional art forms, while others unveil the creative process. From science to social issues, these interactive performances help children make connections across the curriculum, practice critical thinking skills and use the arts as a way to define themselves in an ever-expanding world. Gateway’s performance programs are all standards-based and correlate with a number of curricular objectives. A detailed Teacher Guide is available for each program, packed with pre- and post-performance ideas for lessons plans, information about the artist and the featured work, as well as a list of additional resources (books, films, albums and websites) that use music, dance, theater, storytelling or even pantomime to make your core subjects come off the page and jump into the imaginations of your students. . Since 1957, Gateway to the Arts has been bringing performing and teaching artists into schools in western Pennsylvania. Let us help you create new opportunities for dynamic, student-centered learning. Keep in mind, for many of these performances, classroom workshops with the artist can be added to deepen the experience or address specific objectives.
