Artist: Resonance
Join Resonance for a toe-tapping world tour of the rhythms of percussion! Passport to Rhythm features percussion instruments and traditional music from Brazil, Cuba, West Africa, Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. Students will discover how the fusion of these different musical and cultural styles can come together to create new and interesting forms of music and cultural traditions and gain a better understanding of different music-making traditions from around the world. They will increase their musical vocabulary, describe the basic rhythms and be able to discriminate between rhythms. This program culminates in an opportunity for students to join the band to perform a fusion piece on traditional instruments.
"Students found out about the historical development of the instruments, learned about reggae and steel bands, and heard live Caribbean music."
– Mary Ann Warholak, music teacher, Myrtle Avenue School
