All programs are 45 minutes long except where noted in this catalog. “Back-to-back” refers to two programs with a break of no more than 30 minutes at the same location.

Program Fees
The fees for the programs are listed on corresponding pages and are for performance programs that take place during the school day. All fees include mileage costs. Several of our programs are available for evening and weekend performances at a price determined by the artists.

Program Payment
Gateway to the Arts will issue an invoice approximately one month before the program. No deposit is required. Once the program has taken place, return the invoice with payment to the Gateway to the Arts office within five business days. No money is to be given to the artist(s) at the program site. No down payment is required.

Rescheduling/Cancellation
Should illness or inclement weather prevent the artist(s) from performing a scheduled program, Gateway to the Arts reserves the right to reschedule or, when necessary, make suitable substitutions within an ensemble.

Teacher Guides
Teacher guides for each program are available online or can be sent with the invoice and evaluation forms approximately one month prior to the program date. The guides include tie-ins to Pennsylvania Department of Education Academic Standards, program objectives, discussion prompts and activities to help the students get the most from the program and make suggestions for further research. Please distribute the guides and the evaluations to all participating teachers.

Cancellation Policy
Programs are binding once scheduled and verbally confirmed unless cancelled verbally or in writing to a Gateway to the Arts’ staff member no fewer than five (5) business days prior to the performance date. If a program is canceled within five business days, one-half of the invoiced fee is required. If canceled within 24 hours of performance date and time, the entire fee is required. If a program is canceled due to an unforeseen school closing and cannot be rescheduled, the entire fee will be refunded.

    Root American Music Award

On Friday March 26, Gateway to the Arts awarded the second Root American Music Award, named after musicologist and former Gateway Board President Deane Root, to Boyce Campus Middle College High School teacher, Joanne Krett. The award recognizes an exceptional teacher who has participated in the Center for American Music at the University of Pittsburgh's Voices Across Time program, designed to assist teachers from different disciplines in incorporating American music into their curricula. Krett, an English teacher, uses music and lyrics as primary learning material, as a tool to connect to the humanities overall and to engage her students more deeply in the curriculum.

In addition to this recognition, Joanne and her students also received a free performance program by the acoustic blues duo Wiggins and Harris sponsored by Gateway in cooperation with Calliope: Pittsburgh Folk Music Society
