Artist residencies are sequential workshops that create powerful, in-depth learning experiences for students. Designed to heighten the impact of a school performance, to provide specialized instruction in the arts or to explore unifying ideas and academic curriculum in an exciting, interdisciplinary manner, a residency is customized to fit your needs.

Sparking imagination, self-expression, pride and motivation in students, the emphasis of a residency is in the process. Gateway teaching artists work with educators to design the program around specific curricular goals and work with students to guide creative exploration that weaves art experiences into curricular activities.

Residencies can be designed to be pre- or post-visits to be added to a performance program. For more information contact Heidi at 412.362.6982 or email.

Gateway to the Arts offers a variety of residencies which may comprise only a few workshops or extend through an entire school year. Subject areas are diverse and can be customized to fit your curriculum needs. Residencies may take the form of:
•        Culturally-specific residencies in dance, music or visual arts
•        Interdisciplinary projects culminating in presentations or exhibits
•        Master classes for music students
•        Specialized visual arts instruction for advanced students, including professional development for educators
•        A series of workshops for the gifted or special needs students
•        After-school programming

Planning:
Working as a team, to ensure that the residency meets curricular objectives and actively engages all students, the teaching artists and educators meet before the project begins to clarify objectives, define expectations of one another, create a daily schedule of activities and to discuss required materials and workspaces.

Pricing:
The cost of a residency is flexible and can be structured around your goals. Pricing is determined by many variables, including any artist performances, core group(s) of students, number of workshops, materials/supplies and any culminating student activities. Please contact our office so that we may determine pricing.

Residency matching funds may be available through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts’ Arts in Education program.
