In preparation for the May 2010 Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children (PAEYC) Early Arts Conference, Creativity: Where the Future Begins, Gateway is offering a series of 12 early childhood professional development workshops. Workshops in dramatic play, music, movement/dance, as well as in puppetry, and the visual arts will be taught by Gateway’s professional teaching artists. Many of these trainings will also be featured again at the conference itself.
We kicked off the series with the workshop Puppet Power last Wednesday, December 9 at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Homestead. Puppeteer Joann Kielar helped educators discover the power of puppets to enliven learning in the pre-K classroom and to create a variety of simple puppets using inexpensive materials.
The next workshop, A Story in a Box, a Bag or a Can with Barbara Russell, is scheduled for Thursday, January 21st from 6:30-8:30 at the Robinson Tender Care.

Stay tuned for information about Super Saturdays on February 2 & 27 and March 27. These events in Allegheny and surrounding counties will offer a series of 3 two-hour workshops in one day.

Creativity: Where the Future Begins will take place May 14, 2010 at the Omni William Penn and May 15, 2010 at the David Lawrence Convention Center.
This exciting conference will feature a keynote address by the dynamic early childhood expert Bev Bos and will offer a vast array of arts-related professional development opportunities, artist showcases and performances, an artist market, hands-on art-making, and vendor booths, as well as demonstrations and sharing of projects and activities created by early learning centers in Western Pennsylvania.
